    Payment and Insurance

Rivanna Counseling is in-network with Aetna, Anthem, United Healthcare, and Medicare Part B. If you have coverage through one of these providers, we can bill your insurance directly.

For clients with other insurance plans, we are considered an out-of-network provider. While we do not bill out-of-network insurers directly, we’re happy to provide a superbill—a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement.

Please note: Out-of-network reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your specific plan. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider to learn more about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

If you have questions about coverage or the superbill process, we’re here to help.

If you are in network, you will pay our contracted rate for that network. For Amit Shahane, his hourly rate for out-of-network is $200/hr. For Brenda Doremus-Daniel, her hourly rate for out-of-network is $155/hr.

    Supervisee in Clinical Social Work

My goal as your therapist is to help you develop your personal tool kits to cope with the human experience.  I am dedicated to helping my clients to navigate life transitions with compassion, to have vulnerable conversations with loved ones, and to live more liberated lives.

I work with adults and adolescents (16+)  using empathy, kindness, and evidence-based practices curated to your needs and goals.  My style is a combination of mind-body (somatic), narrative, cognitive-behavioral, acceptance and commitment, and solution-focused therapies.  As a second-generation American born to immigrant parents, supporting “third-culture individuals” through the observance of and honoring of individual cultural heritage and practices is deeply important to me.  My background includes early childhood education, parenting education, and eldercare through both classroom and hands-on work as a former birth doula and current elder care movement practitioner. My specialized areas include gender/sexual/cultural identity, aging, adjustment to medical diagnosis, grief, and family dynamics.

I hold degrees from American University and Virginia Commonwealth University and will be practicing under the supervision of Brenda Doremus-Daniel, LCSW.  My clinical experiences thus far have supported adult individuals, parents and families, immigrants/refugees, and hospital-based social work.
